Since 2007, the Canned Food Alliance has been working with Rutgers University to commission both primary and secondary research studies to examine why Americans eat the way they do and the effects a properly stocked pantry can have on dietary health.  These studies have revealed key learnings that have been used to help educate consumers about the poor state of the American diet and what can be done to fix it.  Key learnings from the studies include:

  • One-third of Americans decide what to eat for dinner at the last minute and make dinner selections because they require little or no planning.

  • Today’s moms aren’t confident they can consistently prepare nutritious meals, as they often face many time constraints that require quick food preparation.

  • Many moms can benefit from recognizing that good nutrition and preparing food quickly can go hand in hand, with the help of canned foods.

  • Moms form four distinct groups according to their food-related attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors, and by recognizing how they fit within these four profiles, they’ll be better able to make improved food choices.

  •  Families are earning high marks on intentions for good nutrition but lack knowledge of food prep fundamentals
