A wonderfully surprising libation for an endless summer comes from a childhood favorite.

Ingredients:

5 ounces (1/2 cup, plus 2 tablespoons) canned fruit cocktail in heavy syrup, puréed (from 15- ounce can)*
Juice of 2 fresh limes
3 ounces (1/4 cup, plus 2 tablespoons) pear-flavored premium vodka
2 tablespoons sugar
Ice
Pineapple wedges and cherries, for garnish

Equipment: Blender

Preparation:

Do ahead: Purée entire can of fruit cocktail in blender. Transfer purée to a separate bowl/pitcher. Rinse blender bowl and return to the base.

For two cocktail drinks: Add lime juice, vodka and fruit cocktail purée to blender. Add sugar. Fill serving glass with ice, pour ice into blender and repeat adding another glass of ice. Blend well. Pour into cocktail glasses. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and a cherry.

Tip: Try substituting white cranberry juice in the place of vodka for a non-alcoholic treat for the kids to enjoy. Serving glass: 14-ounce cocktail glass (daiquiri/poco grande)
